MARIE MOINE

VERSION FR
Version française

Marie Moine a native of Provence, spent many years of her life sailing but decided to settle on Saint Martin in 1993 while enjoying a break from a round the world voyage she had embarked on.
Art and painting had always enthralled her as a child and she turned to painting on ceramic following a fortuitous encounter which resulted in her making a radical decision to change the course of her life, here on the island, and to pursue her passion for ceramics.
To her surprise and delight she discovered she had a real flair for drawing, unusual scenes, which could be ideal for future pieces… She returned to France and was totally convinced after working for a period of time under some master potters from Nevers. These exceptional artists who were immediately impressed with her talent, taught her the age old techniques of firing pottery that only a very exclusive group of firers are capable of reproducing today.
The qualification of “master potter” is awarded by a board of experts in Art Colleges and takes years of outstanding work to achieve. Her assiduity found an ideal artistic expression through this most unusual technique.

THE STUDIO

She opened her own very personalized studio in 1998, in St Martin, where she started to produce, create and decorate.
Drawings, born of her imagination, are created, improved upon and finally transferred to canvas for her ceramics.

TECHNIQUE

The Art of pottery firing produces results beyond compare. The pottery, which is soaked in an enamel bath of her making, is fired once before the designs are painted or applied by hand.
This technique allows for no mistakes. The colours and designs are painted on with infinite care and then the pieces are fired for a second time at extremely high temperatures for an entire night. Once the door of the oven is opened, the results are astounding! The colours are superb and vibrant and the finished pieces will last for an exceptionally long time.

CLIENTELE

She has a wide clientele of connoisseurs and collectors who chat together on the internet or who have discovered her while driving through Oyster Pond.
As for those who have not already taken the time to visit her studio–gallery, we highly recommend a visit to the marvelous world of Marie Moine, which is a truly worthwhile stop on Saint Martin.
